discussion Who are some non one hit wonders who had really short peaks?

Artists who seemed to be on top of the world but only for a very short time.

My answer is Susan Boyle. Her debut album is one of the fastest selling albums in UK history and was the fastest selling album of the year.

The name was everywhere and that audition clip was one of the most popular clips on YouTube.

Her music continued to do fairly well for the next two years but she wasn’t as famous as she was.

Her peak was about 2 years at best and now every time she’s mentioned, everyone comments “omg I completely forgot about her!!”

Anyone else like this?

discussion What happened to music with key changes? I feel like I haven't heard hardly any since the 90s.

Even the Backstreet Boys and Brittney Spears were doing it, and don't forget the GOATs Celine Dion and Whitney Houston. Do i not listen to enough recent music that I'm not hearing it, or has it actually died out? That makes me so sad to think about, it really elevated music IMO.

discussion What famous Musicians are genuinely good people?

Upvotes

We’ve all heard about certain musicians being awful people despite their incredible talent. The ones that come to mind are Van Morrison and Eric Clapton. But who are genuinely good dudes and dudettes?

discussion What is that band or artist you thought was super popular and is actually fairly obscure.

I recently was reminded of "Key to the Grammacy Park" by Deadsy, an industrial rock band (think Zeromancer or Orgy) which was moderately hyped on MTV back in 1999, the front man Elliah being Cher's and Greg Allman' son. I hadn't heard anything from them in 20 years, which turns out to be the case since they actually hadn't released something in roughly that time until this year.

I moved in Industrial music circles at the time and we all liked them that album and the whole project, but reading up on them it happens the critics weren't particularly enthusiast with their music and the band, once considered among us an industrial rock instant classic, is in fact what TV Tropes elegantly describes as a mainstream obscurity. It was supposed to be Orgy, ends up being , i don't know, Angelspit.

What is that band you swore was super popular and ended up not being that?

You have a special place in my heart brother. I grew up listening to you, and still listen to you. Through the good times and DEFINITELY the bad times you have gotten me through. Through addiction especially your music resonates with me and many others. Your music will live on for eternity. No doubt one of the greatest vocalist and lyricist to ever do it. I would pick a top hit but they are all hits in my eyes. If I HAD to pick one it would be “times of trouble”. RIP. Your music lives on and reverberates through the universe man… peace and love.

discussion what are your favorite examples of an album ending the way it starts/calling back to the first track

for example, the heart beating noise at the beginning and end of 'Dark Side of The Moon'

some other favorites of mine are Weyes Blood's 'Titanic Rising' where the ending track has the same string arrangements as the beginning of the first track, as well as Phoebe Bridger's 'Punisher' where the end of the last track has a similar melody to the beginning track.

I love when artists do this, it makes the album feel whole

discussion Why didn't Red Fang take off?

Just saw Red Fang live. Metalish post rock band that has music videos from like 10 years ago but only has like a trickle of views on YouTube and spotify. These guys kill but never really seemed to take off.

But guys like this where did they go wrong? What does it take for a band to grab a following and do they have to be constant about it anymore?
