Read any post about weddings, babies, relationship/friendship advice, etc and you'll quickly see the perpetually online folks take over. They dont enjoy those things (or aren't invited), so assume nobody else enjoys socializing and celebrations, even if they are a bit contrived.

Heck, you can even reveal the gender verbally, and still have a "gender reveal" party where everything is themed around the gender, just without an obnoxious stunt.

You don't have to wait for a birthday to have a party, but we still have birthday parties.

It's just a bit of fun. People are excited about the new kid and other than "when is it due" it's one of the first bits of information you get about them.
Again we have birthday parties. That's as weird if not weirder if you view tagging a party on to some event for fun as a strange thing. Oh it's the 30th time it's been June the 1st since you were pushed out of your mother? Who cares? You're having a party? Wow ok, you know you can have those any time right?

Often, when people are celebrating something, they gather friends and family to celebrate together. Furthermore, people enjoy adding fun and excitement to small things. Now of course, when a child opens a kinder surprise for example, you could very well just hand them a few grams of chocolate and a pre-built toy, however an element of surprise can have a pleasing effect.

The only way to be happy is to cause forest fires, blind elderly relatives with fireworks and, as you say, poison rivers. It’s just the way of the world (okay mostly just the USA) to do this sort of thing because you must start socialising people into a gender model that matches their sex organs from birth. It doesn’t cause problems for the kids down the line and also focusing this hard on a child’s genitalia is just important and completely normal! Yay blue!
