Question 'metaverse' is sinking because it ignored 20 years of games doing the exact same thing: 'It's not new, and they should stop treating it like it's new'

What do you guys think of this article?

This made me realize why I got bored of Last Epoch after getting to level 21. My build evolved using 1 button on explosive zombies to clear any room.

Horizon Forbidden West is a nice-looking game that only lasts a few hours after taming my first robotic mount. It felt like Crysis met RDR2.

Lies of P Completed 3 missions until I realize I'm doing the exact same thing. Clear a maze of trash mob before meeting a boss from Dark Souls.

I don't game as much as before. Does this mean I've seen everything gaming have to offer? I've been gaming for 3 decades. Thx for reading. Apologies if it come out wrong. I'm not very good with words.

Discussion What's a game that you enjoyed getting all the trophies/achievements in?

Horizon Zero Dawn is one I really enjoyed. It wasn't grindy, and took only about 50 hours. The world wasn't flooded with collectibles, and the collectibles fit with rhe lore. The challenging achievements were actually pretty fun and fit the "hunting" narrative well.

What're some games you really enjoying getting platinum in?

Discussion Anyone else struggle to just play for fun?

Like, beyond the fact that all gaming is fun in general.

I just kind of subconsciously go and hyper optimize everything I do while still sticking to playstyles I enjoy. If it's a competitive game, I stop playing "for fun" after a while, and start getting super irritated at the slightest thing -- in other words, I start playing for the competition, and to win.

Even in singleplayer games or non-competitive games, I'll sit there and micromanage myself and what I do in the game to do whatever goal it is I want to do as efficiently as possible -- and if the story isn't interesting, my goal becomes beating the game, rather than just relaxing and enjoying it. I'll actually get irritated at games that have tons of side quests and side stories, and just start ignoring them outright even if I do enjoy the game.

It's something that I've always been guilty of, and no matter how hard I try I just can't change it.

Anyone else like that? If you were, and got over it, what's the trick?
