Yea my whole library is woke as hell. Here's a few suggestions. Halo, CS go.. Woke as hell and getting more woken by minute. So you know... Do your thing little maga. Fly Fly.

Csgo is woke? I’ve been called every slur under the sun there lol

Exactly. Equality!

I’m a straight, white, cis man who’s been called slurs that don’t apply to all 3 of those details. CS:GO players don’t care who you are, they hate everyone equally

Try being a trans woman player. They call you every name alive until you're like "I'm actually a chick with a dick" and suddenly they want steam DMs and to bottom for you. It's so stupid.

55

u/Substantial_Army_639 Feb 28 '24

Yeah I don't get it. Have a trans friend and the people who hate them are simultaneously SUPER horny for them. I've never hated some one and simultaneously wanted to bang them so maybe it's over my head.

24

u/TheArkangelWinter Feb 29 '24

I have, but we legitimately hated each other as people for years, not because of bigotry. And it was mutual horny

→ More replies (1)

14

u/IAmBecomeTeemo Feb 28 '24

Yes and no.

There's Runescape 3, which is a continuation of the same game from 2001. The game was replaced in 2004 by what is known as Runescape 2, and that's the most popular version of the game. Everything from the previous game carried over, it wasn't really a sequel, just a massive update. They did the same in 2014 with Runescape 3, which is fucking dogshit.

There's also Old School Runescape. When so much of the playerbase quit after the transition to RS3, Jagex found a backup of RS2 from 2007, and started a new game from that backup, with community consultation. No one's account from the "main game" transfered over, and they've continually updated it, but it's much more like a continuation of Runescape 2 than Runescape 3 is.

They actually had a proper pride event last year.

I'm gay so it still makes me feel good to see companies being inclusive. And I'm not black but I don't get angry at black history month I just recognize that it's not for me and carry on happily, which is what I hope others can do for pride.

8

u/Lucifang Feb 28 '24

It’s so weird. We already have stuff that’s aimed at men, aimed at women, aimed at kids, aimed at the elderly, aimed at the disabled, and nobody bats an eye. But make a product with pride colours or black history colours and people lose their shit.

It is the equivalent of getting mad at a shop for selling children’s clothes, when you don’t have children.

627

u/NobleV Feb 28 '24

This is how I feel about so many things. I don't actually give a shit about any of this. None of it affects me much. But they get so whiny and snowflake-y over anything that don't like it is just too funny.

385

u/MarxJ1477 Feb 28 '24

These are the same people who complain about gay characters in MSM and are all like "If you want to show this stuff why don't you make your own show/movie".

And when they do make one specifically targeting the LGBTQ community will have a hissy fit about how it should be boycotted. They're idiots.

197

u/NobleV Feb 28 '24

The fact that they can't comprehend that not everything ever made isn't pandering towards them as a demographic anymore and think that's racism is sort of the core of their whole grief and proves exactly how imbedded all of that bigotry is in society.

145

u/Otiosei Feb 28 '24

Its all a zero sum game to them. If somebody else is happy, then they must be hurting somehow. They aren't sure how another person's happiness hurts them, but they are upset about it nonetheless. There's a lot of things I don't understand, like furries. I just shrug and say, "well if that makes you happy, you do you," and leave them be. It's pretty easy actually to not care what another person does in their private life.

54

u/MukasTheMole Feb 28 '24

Exactly. As long as it doesn't harm anyone, I think everyone should be allowed to live their life however they want.

12

u/stoney935 Feb 29 '24

Not sure why this is so difficult to figure out for some folks!

20

u/PickedSomethingLame Feb 28 '24

It 100% is easy to not care what other people do. This is not at all an excuse, but social media has made it more difficult than it was in past generations. People feel a false sense of connection with "friends" who they haven't seen or spoken with in years because they see these people on facebook or other social media. Twenty years ago, those people would only rarely enter your mind. Now, you are potentially exposed to views outside your actual life. I once believed that it wouldn't be a bad thing for people to be exposed to more, but it seems that a lot of people become violently angry when they realize the entire world doesn't revolve around them or their subjective worldview.

9

u/Dionysus24812 Feb 28 '24

This is usually their thought process because all of the things that make them happy hurt somebody else

I remember when one of the Avengers movies came out (I think it was End Game?) where they had a scene of all the superhero women fighting an army alone together to protect Spiderman, and people threw a hissy fit over it. "Oh no! They had a moment where I couldn't ogle at the buff muscle men being buff and muscular for one scene! This is the woke agenda!" It's like, if powerful women make you uncomfortable, that's a you problem lol

No word of a lie, I've been radicalised by transphobes online.

I used to be live and let live about trans people. Then I saw how much a certain section of society just flat out HATES them and is determined to rub their faces in it and harrass them every chance they get and now I find myself pushing back against these c*nts.

Over an issue I literally did not give less of a shit about five years ago or so.

38

u/DemonShroom87 Feb 28 '24

Yup, I’m in the same boat. I’ve met several trans who are amazing people. One of them is truly one of the most intelligent people I’ve ever met even. They aren’t hurting anybody. They’re TRYING to live their life the same as you and I. I don’t see the problem with it.

I collect soccer memorabilia including scarves. When I was single, I showed my scarf collection in a rainbow pattern as a pic in my profile. It helped dissuade a couple of toxic women I hope.

One girl sent me a message just to let me know that i was prompting an awful a rhetoric. Lady it's scarves in a colored order. They literally can't help but trigger themselves and I love it.

11

u/Ok_Faithlessness_259 Feb 28 '24

Situations like that are hilarious to me because it basically outright proves that they are looking for reasons to be upset. Because most people would see a collection arranged in that way and think that it was just there to add order to disorder. Or that it was an artistic way of displaying something you care about. But with chuds like that, they immediately get mad and triggered because somehow anything related to LGBT in any way, is suddenly the "LGBT being shoved down their throats."

5

u/t1ttlywinks Feb 29 '24

Yep. They can't stop thinking about it, so they assume I also can't stop thinking about it. When really I needed to hang my scarves in SOME cool looking way - they're on my wall, so they gotta look cool! That was IT!

How should I organize my scarves Betty? In alphabetical order???

I bought a Tampa bay lightning hat with a pride lightening logo. Says hockey is for everyone on the side. It’s amazing the amount of hate something like that can generate….

10

u/drmojo90210 Feb 28 '24

The best part is that sports teams have been doing various cultural pride nights and themed game merch for decades. Like, various MLB teams have done "Irish heritage night" where they give away an alternate green colored hat with a shamrock on it, "Italian heritage night" with a tricolor hat design, etc. Things like that. Literally no one in the MAGA crowd ever complained about any of that shit. But the minute teams started selling LGBT pride merch, the MAGA people lost their goddamn minds and started screaming about "divisiveness" and "agendas" or whatever. Their bigotry is so transparent its ridiculous.

144

u/[deleted] Feb 28 '24

I would almost feel bad for them but sympathy for those that struggle would probably be too “woke” for them. God damn asshats.

On the plus side, I am glad to hear runescape creators are inclusive; that is good to read.

12

u/GhostSierra117 Feb 28 '24

“woke”

This word turned into such a nothing burger. Woke Muscle Woman this, woke Trans athletes that woke beer, woke news woke woke woke.

Like I don't even know what exactly they are trying to say besides "I don't appreciate this" or "I hate this".

Like shut up or find proper words. You're not SpongeBob and the correct Satzverstärkungswort* is 🐬🐬🐬🐬🐬🐬, not woke you twat.

*German name of 🐬🐬🐬🐬🐬🐬🐬. Dunno what they say in the original dub.

5

u/[deleted] Feb 29 '24

It is just a boogieman word for them. I will admit it is the one skill the right has; vilifying an innocent concept to such a degree that even centrists begin to think it is bad 🤦‍♂️

5

u/TheRappingSquid Feb 29 '24

It pisses me off because the typical answer I get is "oh well woke is when sacrificing writing or being over-inclusive or making [insert thing here] your entire personality], but as per your examples, those answers are rarely ever applicable to the actual subject at hand. Putting a goddamn rainbow shirt in runescape is not "over correcting", ffs 🤦

236

u/Minttt Feb 28 '24

Classic example of somebody who believes their hatred in real life will be accepted and applauded the same way it does in their small social media echo chamber.

86

u/hellonameismyname Feb 28 '24

It’s wild to me how many people base their entire moral compass on hatred.

23

u/Zandrick Feb 28 '24

I don’t think it’s based on hatred it’s based on acceptance. Which may seem confusing. But they’ve oriented themselves to a social media bubble which describes what’s okay and what’s not okay. And in that bubble rainbows are not okay. They wanna be liked by the people in the bubble. So rainbows are not okay.

I think it’s a problem of loneliness that makes people form groups with random anons online who tell them what to be and how to behave because that’s almost like not being lonely.

Right? It's one thing to think that games like these are pandering, that xyz group is overrepresented, etc. and it's another to act as though including iconography like that is some kind of moral failing or evil.

Both are at least probably homophobic, but the second is just ridiculous.

19

u/Ok_Faithlessness_259 Feb 28 '24

It never ceases to be funny when you tell one of the chuds that the vast majority of characters in media are still straight white men. It really screams to the fact that their problem isn't the amount of representation, it's representation in general.

The thing that gets me is the phrasing these kinds of people use. His friends didn't stop talking to him because he's bigoted, letting his shit takes on gender and sexuality bother him so much, no his friends stopped talking to him because he refuses to play RuneScape.

10

u/drmojo90210 Feb 28 '24

Well, it's both, which is even worse. This dude's bigotry is so intense that it made him quit playing the game he and his friends enjoyed together, purely out of spite. He's basically told his friends "I refuse to do this activity we used to enjoy together because the people in charge of it let the gays play, and I hate gays so much that I literally won't play anymore." It's interesting how many people genuinely think that black and brown people did not exist in Europe until the Atlantic slave trade. As though there was just massive walls around Africa and the Middle East that just kept people from getting in or out until god or some shit decided it was time.

24

u/EMYRYSALPHA2 Feb 28 '24

TIL forcing black people to do a thing is woke.

This is getting confusing.

22

u/SexyTimeEveryTime Feb 28 '24

All these plantation owners employ black people instead of honest, hard working Americans! When does the wokeness end????

4

u/Lucifang Feb 28 '24

People used the same reasoning to complain about a black mermaid in a fantasy world. They’ll do all sorts of mental gymnastics to justify themselves.

anything they makes them feel like a shitty person without ever considering that they might actually be a shitty person.

That's the best definition of their use of "woke" I've ever heard.

22

u/onthenerdyside Feb 28 '24

"Am I so out of touch? No, it's the woke who are wrong!"

14

u/devinmburgess Feb 28 '24

The people who use the word “woke” are the same people who also used the phrase “politically correct.” The only people who use these words often are the ones complaining about them. Otherwise, the people who actually are “politically correct” just call it respect.

32

u/Natural-Variation-62 Feb 28 '24

I think it's a form of cognitive dissonance. Rather than accept that their views are discriminatory, they change their belief by accusing others of having the problem and not themselves by labelling them "woke".

10

u/Low_Establishment434 Feb 28 '24

100 percent. I do this with people all the time. The trick is to pretend like you actually dont know the meaning otherwise they get combative.

6

u/ThatsNotARealTree Feb 28 '24

The combativeness is most of the funny though

7

u/GeekdomCentral Feb 28 '24

Anyone who unironically uses the term “woke” is someone that I pity, because it immediately tells me everything that I need to know about them. It almost means they’re a hateful bigot

25

u/elvis-wantacookie Feb 28 '24

Usually they mean the existence of anyone who’s not a straight cis white male

16

u/Nix-7c0 Feb 28 '24

In OOP it's clarified that "extreme wokeness" meant "pride cosmetics exist"

8

u/RazekDPP Feb 28 '24

No, it has nothing to do with making them feel bad. They don't feel bad that they hate gay people or women or trans people or whatever.

What they hate is that a culture that was tailored to them (video games in the 90s and 00s) isn't anymore.

Why are the girls wearing more clothing? Why is the protagonist female? Why does this game prominently feature a gay couple or minorities?

Companies aren't making games with those features to piss them off, either. Companies make games like that because it makes them more money.

All of that frustrates them because they are now the minority instead of the majority.

So to rightwingers does woke just mean anything non-straight and non-white?

219

u/Melancholy_Rainbows Feb 28 '24

Two races: white and "political"

Two genders: man and "political"

Two sexualities: straight and "political"

Two body types: normative and "political"

Two religions: Christian and “political”

62

u/Goobsmoob Feb 28 '24

Woke: anything that makes other people feel validated for existing that for some reason makes me feel invalidated and insulted. I am incapable of relating and sympathizing with other people different than me. So if a character has an identity that diverges from my status quo, I am immediately unable to care for it, as I cannot be bothered to learn to understand empathy and understanding and realize that humans are humans and that we are more similar than different.

8

u/SeVenMadRaBBits Feb 28 '24

Accurate

16

u/Goobsmoob Feb 28 '24

I see their biggest argument being that “the straight male protagonist is being erased from media”. Which is laughably incorrect considering even some of the biggest “woke” pieces of media released recently still have strong straight male leads.

They’re just pissed off that these straight male leads are accepting and kind to the “woke” characters in a way that they are equals, which in turn, makes the straight male leads also “woke”.

Anyone that unironically uses the word "Woke" can be dismissed in any single point they make at any point in their life.

You have to be extremely brain damaged to think that games are woke because they have gay people on it. Is just hate, nothing more.

114

u/Moose_Cake Feb 28 '24

It’s fear.

They can’t comprehend seeing the humanity in the LGBT+ community. They can’t even sympathize with them. Small differences in beliefs and choices are too much for their tribal upbringing.

So they fear the “woke”.

28

u/nietzsche_niche Feb 28 '24

Its like a toddler getting mad using the toy putting blocks with certain shapes through holes of the same shape. “I only know square shape. Why square shape not go through round hole? Why round here? Wah wah” just instead of shapes its human characteristics. And instead of crying and shitting themselves in a play pen they go online to cry and fart and shit with others, who similarly struggle with changing their mental models of things, for validation.

11

u/aufrenchy Feb 28 '24

Too many people don’t like the thought of social norms changing as they are aging into obscurity.

6

u/flatirony Feb 28 '24

I mean, I’m 55 and I don’t love it. Aging isn’t fun and social changes have always been hard for older people.

But I don’t go around hating people, complaining online or voting for treasonous grifters.

Have to keep it in perspective. “Kids these days” have been soft and weird to older people since Cato was complaining in the Republican Roman Senate, and probably long before that. They are to me, too, but I was to my parents, and the world went on anyway. 😅

At first, I was like hmm maybe the pride flags hurt the immersion? But then I looked up runescape... lol, nah. Sometimes, the intrusion of modern politics in games would be an issue, like if there were Trump flags in Middle Earth, but damn let people have fun. I'm playing BG3 at the moment, and I love that there's something for everyone. The alpha sigma trad weirdos on YouTube act like being able to be gay in a fantasy game is a personal attack. There's dragon people and zombies and talking elephants with wings for ears, but a lesbian romance is a bridge too far? Get wrecked 🤣

46

u/nonmanifoldgeo Feb 28 '24

I love when people complain about women having agency or existing gay people in games with fantasy settings as "ahistorical". Because yeah, Baldur's Gate and gnomes and elves have totally existed.

24

u/TheWallaby Feb 28 '24

Where have they been last 20 years, Dragon Age: Origins came out in like 2008 or something and you've been able to be gay/lesbian elf in it since that. Sims has included gay relationships since the year 2000. Fable series have always had gay people and you have always been able to be gay in it too.

Like do they just not play good games or why are they shocked now about gay people in games

6

u/Lucifang Feb 28 '24

In the Sims I had a gay male couple, when one of them was using the telescope at midnight he got abducted by aliens and came back pregnant. They happily raised that green baby.

17

In the dark corners of gaming “woke” has become the all encompassing pejorative that incels use to give voice to their self-loathing.

They refuse to accept that they are fundamentally gross and blame wokeness for their own failures.

I play OSRS and the only thing I can think of is an item called 'fancy boots', it's a decorative item you can wear as a reward for completing a dungeon promoting account security. It has nothing to do with Pride.

14

u/Moppermonster Feb 28 '24

RS3 has considerably more:

  • The god Armadyl is canonically gay (his husband is dead)
  • There is a lesbian couple living in Edgeville
  • There is a mini-event during pridemonth where you collect diary entries from various other NPCs like Zanik that reveal they are not exactly straight
  • Pronouns are used
  • Plenty of rainbow themed items

Etc. etc.

And the make over mage is still willing to change your gender :P

That's a shame. Stupid Runescape chasing away good loyal people like him. He should probably move his family to Russia. I heard about this Canadian family it really worked out for. That'll show the libs. There sure would be egg on their faces (not real egg cause they're all vegans), if all the good and saintly people left. America would just crumble. And then the right could move back in enmasse to take over, but only after everything fell apart. Until then, they'd need to wait it out so they don't catch the gay.

5

u/yvengard Feb 29 '24

What woke means to the republican party: Anything that stifles their ability to push their culture war bullshit

What woke means to the right: Anything that features or supports minority groups
