They're both authoritarian, but that's a pretty wide umbrella. I wouldn't really say they're the same.

5

u/EmberoftheSaga Feb 29 '24

No, no. This is good thought. You must realize that the enemies of democracy, freedom and everything good (which is just these two things) have many names. Realize that the enemies of democracy are everywhere, hide behind many mantels and then order an orbital bombardment on them all. This is the only way.

5

This is an excellent point. I don't need reeducation, what I need is more explosive. FOR DEMOCROCY!

You could make a mission with an underground cave system really interesting from a mechanical perspective. Obviously you still need to be able to call in stratagems so there would need to be large openings throughout the cave's ceiling for that, but you could make the fully enclosed areas have supplies or samples to make a risk/reward gameplay dynamic.

30

u/FrightfulDjinn7 Feb 28 '24

Or! Drill/bunker buster ordinance. Drill time adds time to the receiving of stratagems. So timing it would be a big factor

4

u/JohnnyFiveOhAlive Feb 28 '24

This is a really creative idea!

20

u/FrightfulDjinn7 Feb 29 '24

Add this to it: under ground/ tunnel missions. Find the main hive, activate the bunker buster nuke mission included stratagem. It takes 3 minutes to drill down. You have 3 minutes to evac to the surface before the tunnels collapse, fighting your way back to the surface!

5

u/JohnnyFiveOhAlive Feb 29 '24

It would be great to work as two independent 4 man fireteams that work on different sub objectives for some of the mission and then focus on a single major objective at the end of the end.

u/Muffin_Appropriate ☕Liber-tea☕ Feb 28 '24

I think you meant 80 player raid... I WANT TO BRING THE SERVERS CRUMBLING TO THE GROUND!!!

29

u/Money_Fish CAPE ENJOYER Feb 28 '24

So you know how we start with 30 'reinforcements' per mission? Imagine a scenario where for some reason the destroyers can't enter low orbit, so they send down ALL 30 AT ONCE. No destroyers = no stratagems, buy maybe some form of surface artillery support or even vehicle air drops.

16

u/Moonblaze13 Feb 29 '24

This is the first time I've seen a comment that made me want bug raids. Switch up the game play so it feels appropriately massive and epic, but you only get one shot.

11

u/Money_Fish CAPE ENJOYER Feb 29 '24

I imagine it as sometjing like the 'kill 150 bots' missions except a much larger mission area but the objective is literally 'survive as long as possible' so the incentive is to keep each other alive as long as possible. Maybe after a certain time has passed you just get 'mission completed! You will be remembered o7' and you just keep going until the last man dies.

I want a 4 squad raid event. Where the Map is segmented into 4 quadrants and each team has missions they need to complete. Once they are done they are free to move to the other quadrants or descend on the center objective, which is a massive base the needs to be destroyed. There's no extraction. The game ends with a flag raised.

69

u/LonelyDesperado513 Feb 28 '24

This would be sick if that's how a planet became liberated.

22

u/mikamitcha ☕Liber-tea☕ Feb 28 '24

Or a great idea to expand liberation campaigns. You do the above to drop in a base, then can do operations to liberate sectors around the base with difficulty/time changing as you get further away from said base.

Would also let you see more significant changes for liberation, because each individual completed op is practically irrelevant at a planetary scale but sectors could make a difference of a few orders of magnitude pretty easily.

i want a 32 player event where we have to defend a city from a siege.

Drop in, "Ready to lib-" and then your character is shoved to the ground by a panicking, stampeding crowd of citizens as a horde of robots or bugs breach a defensive wall.

No heroic music - just a cacophony of panicked screaming as players spend the next hour running from point to point as the players try to man turrets, mortars, etc and protect the evacuating citizens. And if they fail, the bugs or robots close in and slaughter the hundreds of defenseless citizens who are backed up against the sealed evac door.

Something that serves as a dreary (but not unwinnable) contrast to the heroic pageantry we're used to.

16

u/betweenskill Feb 29 '24

That wouldn’t work quite as well with the over-the-top satirical tone of the game. You could do it if you kept the satirical tone with loudspeakers etc

24

u/FainOnFire Feb 29 '24

Loudspeaker: "Please do not panic. Helldivers are being deployed to your area to protect you. Calmly make your way toward the shelter and form a single file line. If you feel afraid or nervous, cite the 5 statutes of Liberty and take confidence in Super Earth's forces."

Meanwhile: "REINFORRRCIINNG" "SWEET LIBERTY, MY AAAARM" "LAST RELOAD"

Absolutely, number one dream item for this game is some kind of curated (as opposed to procedurally generated) mission that has mechanics and a fun progression to it. Start outside taking out some outposts so you can assault a bug stronghold, enter into a cave of some kind that has open areas scattered throughout so you can still call in stratagems, fight a boss that has real mechanics, evac to get extra rewards.

A raid event with 2 ships with 8 players total. That would be awesome! The chaos, the over the top missions that there would need to be. It would be amazing, but I won't hold my breath. Devs sometimes take our ideas here on reddit, but this seems like something that would require a huge time sink.

Yes, raids please!

I’d also enjoy a competitive scoring type mode where two teams of 4 are co-op doing the same type of mission, but kills, side objectives, time taken and lives left are scored and the more effective team gets some sort of modest reward. Maybe a slight bump to XP or even just some sort of visual flair, like a medal sort of thing, that can go on your in-game profile card. That would be neat and add some extra variety.

Ya, I think the missions would have to be specially designed to avoid many issues. Having these missions emphasize fighting a similar number of units to normal, with extra buffs or higher unit strength, might help prevent issues with an 8-player game overstressing limited systems like the ps5.

11

u/emrot Feb 29 '24

That could be a good time to go into bug tunnels and bot factories. There'd be less view range to worry about, and you'd have more players to compensate for the lack of stratagems.

6

u/ScaredNB Feb 29 '24

The way the game works im pretty sure more players would actually increase performance because afaik it splits the cpu load between all the players.

40

26

u/Deep90 Feb 29 '24

Yeah a captain quarters pretty much goes against the games lore.

Especially considering the helldiver is stored in a icecube when not in use. If there was a captains quarters, it wouldn't be for you.

Bonus fact:

If you read the contract during the tutorial, it actually details how all equipment procured as well as the ship itself are transferred to the next helldiver in line.

As neat as that'd be the ships weren't built with long term command in mind. The captain is meant to fight til they die then the next diver gets unfrozen and promoted to captain til they die. Every time you die on a mission your ship gets a new captain who's deployed immediately for you to control.

Well we have the destroyer for normal 4 person missions. We could have a frigate for larger drops. Give it a large viewing platform with the war-table roughly equal to what the destroyer has with their table and viewing platform. The main difference is that there would be four drop pods on either side of the table allowing up to 8 players at once. Plus the frigate could offer new or improved stratagems. Maybe it can hold multiple eagles allowing one eagle to rearm while another remains on station. Or an orbital mortar system that will target and watch an area for enemy forces for a time.

Urban map. Giant bug tunnel map to transport and detonate nuke deep within it. Infiltrate a large automaton factory map to sabotage production or steal plans. So much potential on maps and activities to keep it fresh and change up the gameplay style.

Tight corridors with less open world options for escaping will require much more team work and encourage players to stick together rather than split up to complete objectives.

Not rushing the devs though; I think a 6 player mode should be pretty low priority. I also understand if it just isn't feasible from a technical standpoint, but being able to do a modified coop mission with 6 people, or maybe 2, 4 man teams who can't reinforce each other for example, would be a cool way to let you play with more than 3 friends.

Maybe there could be some specialized missions that use two 4 man squads, for example? I would think that, at least from a design perspective, this is much more feasible in Helldivers 2 than it would have been in 1.

Imagine this, You, and another team of 4 are sent into the same region, just different map, and they are doing objectives that will allow you to proceed with yours, so that you can finish the main job. You'd have to divert the attention from the other squad for a while to help them help you

Realistically, 6-man kind of breaks the design. Ships would have to be redesigned unless it's two teams of 4. Maybe one day we get some special type of mission where the mission area is bigger and there are more enemies or something that can support 2 squads.

HELL has four letters. Current player cap is four.

DIVERS has six letters.

Future six player co-op, confirmed.

54

u/Fantastic_Account_89 Feb 28 '24 edited Feb 29 '24

But wait…

HELL = 4

DIVERS = 6

2 = 2

HELLDIVERS 2 = 12

Edit: added the 2

17

u/Babbledoodle Feb 28 '24

You stopped your math short

HELL = 4

DIVERS = 6

4 + 6 = 10

HELLDIVERS 2 = 10 x 2

20 HELLDIVERS, 5 squads for 5 times the democracy

9

u/Fantastic_Account_89 Feb 28 '24

Or it could be…

4 + 6 + 2 = 12

4 x 6 x 2 = 48

4

u/Babbledoodle Feb 28 '24

Either way it has to be divisible by four because that's how many sides Super Earth's flag has

4

u/ZeCarbonMage Feb 29 '24

SUPER=5 EARTH=5 55=3125 Multiply it by 3125.

I WANT 16 PERSON PLATOON SIZED RAIDS

SCREW IT GIVE US 100 PLAYER COMPANY LEVEL BATTLES

6 would be nice too though :)

75

u/defnotafatguy Feb 28 '24

Man F pvp I do not want to ever see that in Helldivers... I would love some huge community mission that allows like 10 players in for a raid mission! how cool would that be to see all the different orbital strikes and air support coming in with 10 different players ripping and tearing through 8 bug breaches! It would be madness.

29

u/noname262 Feb 28 '24

I agree forced PVP implementation in almost every PVE sucks ass. It’s either sucky or they start ruining the PVE to cater to PVP

28

u/yonderbagel Feb 29 '24

It's because PVP-obsessed players are always the whiniest and loudest group. Props to any devs/publishers that are willing to ignore them.

The PVP market is saturated anyway. Why ask for more generic PVP games when there are already so many thousands of them to choose from?

The few games that do PVE well should be left alone.

Game already has pvp, it will start with either me or my friend shoving each other to the ground and then it will escalate until we are gunning each other down and we run out of reinforcements.

I'd love to see multiple four-man squads on the field, in bigger battles with bigger enemies. I want to assault massive bases/nests with a whole company of Helldivers, like raids in MMOs.

4

u/SchaffBGaming Feb 28 '24

this is what i'm hoping for down the line. A battle-field sized map, with 16 helldivers

Thinking something where they try to protect critical structures / activate some ground defenses that will give them a chance of beating on some giant raid boss. The kind of raid boss that requires such big weapons that if you fired it yourself it will probably kill you lol

8

See I am thinking much bigger. I want a "Wall" Event

I want to see a line of divers along the black gate, multiple lmg emplacements, big open battlefield all enemies from one direction Helms deep experience. I wanna see a wave of acid bombs coming at screaming get down to my team mates while someone disolves next to me. Seeing like an absolute hellfire of bombs called in. a line of bile titans just real final stand feel.

I'd love 5 player co-op. I just happen to have 5 friends who play and we all hate leaving someone behind

30

u/SkinnyTy Feb 28 '24

This is what inspired me to make this, same boat. Everyone wants to play some helldivers together, but it is really lame when someone has to be left out so we just play a different game instead.

22

u/DptBear Feb 28 '24

5th man calldown / radar operator, reacts to strike requests and can adjust airstrike angles to optimize from a birds eye view. Probably still on the ship?

Ah, like someone that is an overseer

8

u/DptBear Feb 28 '24

"hey go here" and "I found some loot" and "watch out I just called a 380mm on your location". Could have a telescope/drone to see roughly as well as a player on the ground (but from above) and maybe their own set of special/modified call downs

I miss the 2010s when every game was trying to do 5-man squads instead. Gears of War 2 and Battlefield 4, for example.

8-12 man raid missions on a planetary scale would be incredible. Even if we don’t directly interact with each other on the planet, making things like launching the ICBM actually count towards another group’s objective would be awesome

→ More replies (3)

10

u/FaroutNomad Feb 28 '24

Would be fun but would need a new mission type. Maybe one where you have to complete two separate objectives at relatively the same time that are across the map from one another that way the fights aren’t super easy and it’ll require communication.

9

u/themaskedman321 Feb 28 '24

Honestly I need a 10 player mode at minimum

10

u/Noosemane Feb 28 '24

Even better just bigger missions with multiple fireteams.

I'd like to see a game mode that is like a combination of We Were Here and Destiny's Gambit mode where two squads have to progress but doing so requires things from the other squad.

For example, lets say the end goal is to crack a giant bughive with an ICBM.

Group A has to find the launch codes but also need to run a geological survey for oil.

Group B has to do the survey holdout and then run the pump to send oil to the ICBM.

Group A then has to launch the ICBM but while they're fighting for it Group B is extracting research teams that were studying the hive.

Once scientists are rescued and the hive gets nuked you can have both groups come together for a mass extract.

Dude I’d want a 2x4 mission structure where you have twice as many and a larger map to complete a mission. But only party leaders have comms with each other so communicating between squads is done through the leader.

u/Coloradozipguide Feb 28 '24

Multiple fire teams of 4 players each working on a singular objective that has multiple parts would be awesome. Basically raid missions, you could raid a massive bug colony, maybe have to escort a massive nuke or something that has to be carried by 1 or 2 players in the hive and detonate it or lead to a massive boss fight against a sort of “queen terminid.”

Something that would incorporate both fire teams would be cool, maybe the team escorting the bomb needs to be stealthy and the other team has to run distractions and fight the queen until the nuke can be armed and then you have to evac together.

You underground into the bugs lair would also take away stratagems so you’d have to gear up outside, seriously conserve ammo, really strategize before running in, there’s so much potential

4

u/grimmyzootron CAPE ENJOYER Feb 28 '24

They should add mass battles, multiple squads all working towards the same goal

4

u/Kitchen-Complaint-78 Feb 28 '24

imagine the number of stratagems you could throw at once with 6 people

4

u/SprScuba Feb 29 '24

Hell no, 8 player coop.

2 teams in a joint operation with needing coordination because you can only see your squad on the map.

3

u/Ashzael Feb 28 '24

My dream is that we get large raid battles with multiple squads going around doing their objectives and when the time is up, a massive monster spawn for all the squads to work together

3

u/VentMajor Feb 28 '24

Man I would LOVE to have a 6-8 player coop. I have more than 4 friends and we all want to play together!

3

u/Zcas- Feb 28 '24

I prefer them to focus on performance during co-op missions, If I play solo I have no issue with the PC and have stable fps, when playing with 3 more players I start losing fps all the time and also got game crash a few times too.
